The Crossing of the Ebro
Alicante-Barcelona2025
Design: Jaume Marco
Writings: Teresa Lanceta
Edition: Editorial Concreta
In El Paso del Ebro, collective memory and personal experience converge: the lingering presence of the 1938 Battle of the Ebro, deeply rooted in my maternal family’s memory, and the weekly journeys between Alicante and Barcelona during the seven years (2013–2020) I taught at Escola Massana. Twice a week, I crossed the Ebro.
This book brings together a series of diary-like notes written on the train, photographs of the landscapes travelled through, a video, and five textiles shifting from blue to red, hinting at the rupture of everyday life. The El Paso del Ebro exhibition project also incorporated objects from La Trinxera, a permanent exhibition centre in Corbera d’Ebre, led by Josep M. Gabarró and Pere Sanz. These everyday objects, crafted by survivors from materials salvaged in the trenches, stand as silent witnesses to the destruction of their homes and belongings during the battle.
